Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) also known as Indian saffron, belongs to the family Zingiberaceae. It is an important spice crop in India given its extensive usage in food preparation and consumer products. Turmeric has many uses including consumption, cosmetic and industrial usage. There is a growing domestic and international demand for turmeric given its food and medicinal usage.

Today, we are working with tribal farmers in Odisha in collaboration with our ground partners, helping them cultivate and sell organic turmeric. Over 3,500 farmers across 100 villages in Kandhamal District are engaged in cultivation of turmeric. We are helping these farmers sell their produce to institutional buyers and obtain better price realisation for their produce.

Similarly, we are also evaluating the forward linkage options for over 3,000 farmers in Nanded District to sell their turmeric produce.
